Constellation

A screen of water for imaginary constellations
Audiovisual laser installation

Constellation is a site-specific laser light installation by 1024 architecture that transforms urban waterways into poetic reflections of the night sky. Originally created for the Festival Lumières along the Canal de l’Ourcq in Paris, the piece has since been adapted for public events in Metz and Oslo, expanding its reach across European cities.

By projecting onto the surface of the water, Constellation turns canals and rivers into immersive, ephemeral celestial maps. Using real-time generative laser patterns, the installation creates a continuous visual loop of imaginary star systems and shifting constellations. These light sequences are choreographed to a custom 10-minute ambient soundtrack, inviting viewers into a contemplative atmosphere that bridges digital design and cosmic metaphor.

This urban intervention turns water into a dynamic projection screen, weaving light, sound, and place into a shared public experience. The installation is designed for audiences of all ages, offering a moment of wonder and stillness in the flow of the city. Through its poetic use of technology, Constellation reconnects urban dwellers with the vastness of the universe—reflected not in the sky, but at their feet.

By merging laser art, soundscape design, and site-sensitive scenography, 1024 architecture redefines the way we perceive and experience public space—transforming the everyday into the extraordinary.
