Delta

Delta

A site-specific wave of wood and light.
Permanent architectural light sculpture

Delta is a monumental public art installation located at Porte de la Villette, where the city of Paris meets its neighboring communes, Pantin and Aubervilliers. Commissioned as part of the Reconquête Urbaine (Urban Reclamation) program, this permanent light sculpture transforms an ordinary pedestrian passage over the Paris ring road (Périphérique) into a vibrant, symbolic space of connection.

Suspended above the walkway, the undulating ceiling made of dynamic LED lights evokes a flowing wave—an abstract, luminous canopy that both guides and inspires. Drawing from Étienne-Jules Marey’s pioneering visual studies of movement, Delta choreographs motion into light, turning a transit zone into a space of poetic encounter and visual rhythm.

More than an aesthetic gesture, Delta is a reflection on urban mobility, metropolitan borders, and the transformative role of public art in the urban landscape. It links two formerly disconnected urban zones with a unified, immersive experience that invites pedestrians to reimagine the boundary as a place of passage, not division.

By merging architecture, technology, and social engagement, Delta redefines public space as a site of movement, meaning, and reconnection.
